Erik Benson, Managing Director

Erik brings 20 years of operational and investment experience to Voyager Capital, with domain expertise in the digital media, financial and healthcare technology sectors.  In addition to helping lead Voyager’s presence in Oregon, Erik works with companies in Seattle and San Diego. In 1999, he was responsible for sourcing Voyager’s investment in Seattle-based Avenue A, later renamed aQuantive (acquired by Microsoft in 2007).  Erik has lead investments and joined the boards of several digital media startups including AboutUs, Covario, Elemental Technologies, and Ground Truth.  In the financial and healthcare technology sectors, he served on the Seattle-based board of Capital Stream (acquired by HCL Technologies in 2008) and led investments and serves on the boards of Kryptiq and Revenue Loan.
 
Prior to joining Voyager, Erik ran a digital media company in Seattle called Mimix, Inc. and worked as an executive-in-residence for Seattle-based WRF Capital, commercializing research at University of Washington. Earlier in his career, he worked for Chemical Bank and Chemical Securities (now JP Morgan Chase) in New York in their structured finance, private equity and debt trading groups. Erik holds a BA in economics from Pacific Lutheran University and an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Nordic Heritage Museum.
